PERPLEXED!

Another week, another test session for Grabko Grand Prix!

This week concentration was put on trying out karts at Gokartcentralen that haven't been used yet by the team. Engineers arranged with track officials to try out karts 15 and 3 this time around.

On a day when the circuit and its karts had been subjected to an earlier layman LeMans event that had left both karts and track dirty and slippery, conditions were difficult, but the team had been encouraged by earlier test sessions during the week in which it saw new signing Erkin Bour set a new track record on the updated layout with a 35.526s lap.

Unfortunately for Dan, that kind of pace eluded him completely during this session. The reconnaissance run with kart 15 yielded only a 37.132s best lap, more frustrating for Dan than the rest of the team, which still benefitted from driver input on the karts driving characteristics.

The second qualifying simulation went slightly better, with Dan improving 0.4s to a best time of 36.764s, but it was still over a half second off the 36.2xxs target set for the day.

Kart 3 felt overall much better than kart 15, feeling more sprightly in acceleration and with a better turn in feel, despite having a more mushy brake feel.

However, the overall feeling was of the kart losing pace as the session continued, leaving the power unit lacking by the time optimal the tire temperature window had been worked in, so that even though the times were best at the end, they could have been much better.
"It is really hard to put our finger on it, we are going to have to go look into the data. Kart 15 felt pretty sluggish to be honest, but in kart 3 on the 2nd run, I felt like I was able to put together a few good laps, but looking at the times you wouldn't know it. Even given the track conditions, I should have been at least a few tenths quicker out there today. It's not just me either - we were all looking at the computer screen afterwards and shaking our heads.

But you know what? We'll find the answer, that's what we do, we'll just have to get our heads down and get together as a team to find the answer!"

So there you have it! Another week, another obstacle to overcome in the quest for victory at Grabko Grand Prix!
